In today's pollinator-garden crazed world, everyone wants a butterfly garden, but few people include a caterpillar garden in their landscape plans. This session will explore our familiar concepts of beneficial and pest insects, and challenge attendees to reevaluate their views on some common ‘pests’ and their role in a healthy food web. Presenters will represent multiple regions of the country and will discuss conspicuous garden insects specific to their region before delving into specific examples of how they encourage their respective audiences to view insects in a different light. The session will finish with an interactive exercise recapping the points discussed and showcasing examples of education and outreach.
